Letha’s Life Journey:
Letha lived all over the United States, from California to Indiana and several states in between, however the state she called home was Oklahoma. She was born in Norman Oklahoma to her parents Lee and Louise Bettes on November 9, 1950 but lived all over the state. When her parents divorced she went with her mother and younger brother to California where she would graduate High School and meet her first Husband. After several moves and the birth of her two daughters and her divorce, Letha went back to Southern California to live until 1982 where she moved back to Oklahoma with her Mother and stepfather to raise her daughters.
In 1983 Letha assumed the position of Dietary Cook for the Pauls Valley State School, in Pauls Valley Oklahoma. She cooked on all the different cottages for a variety of residence until 1993 when the state closed the facility. At that time Letha remarried and moved to Oklahoma city where she took her knowledge of the dietary field and applied it to the nursing homes. In 1999 Letha earned the position of Dietary Manager for Grace Living Center and was certified as a Dietitian. She held this position until 2001 when she was granted her divorce and left for California to take care of her mother during her fight with cancer.
After the birth of her granddaughter Kathryn, Letha moved to Texas and then back to Oklahoma. In 2010 Letha was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought that fight and won being declared “in remission” in 2011. In February 2015 once again she moved with her family to Indiana where families merged and the end goal was to move to Las Vegas however being the caregiver she was fate had different plans and put her there to take care of her son-n-law in his final days. In August 2016 Letha became a resident of Brooke Knoll Village where she became a friend to many there. In May 2017 Letha was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer and on June 3rd she lost her fight with it, passing at IU West hospital with her daughters present.
Letha loved life and was always willing to help others in any way she could. She was a Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend to many people in several states, there are two things that anyone who knew her would say: "you always knew she was around by the scent of her Tabu perfume" and "she loved to rock out to all kinds of music, listening to it as loud as she could get away with”.
