Mildred Louise (Hopson) Burks, 90, the daughter of John and Sarah (White) Hopson, was born September 27, 1927 in Cadiz, Ky. Mildred graduated from high school in 1946 from Dotson High School, Princeton, Ky.
Mildred married James Edward Burks on May 23, 1946. They had been married 67 years before James passing. To this union 2 daughters and 3 sons were born. Mildred moved to Indianapolis, IN with her husband and children in 1949.
Mildred was a no nonsense person and mother. She was firm but always fair and just. She loved working on puzzles, shopping, and listening to music, especially BB King. She learned to drive late in life and many people would see her going to get her hair done in her red Toyota, a car James gave her as an anniversary gift.
Mildred was baptized in 1958 and she later serviced as a full time pioneer until her death. She studied with countless individuals helping them gain knowledge of Jehovah.
Mildred departed this life on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Paulette Brents and husband Ronald Brents, Charmill Whitfield and husband Marshall Whitfield; six grandchildren, Aaron Burks, Adar Michael Burks, Brandon Burks, Sophia Burks, Nishia Danielle Burks, Candace Stewart and husband Nicholas Stewart; Daughter in laws, Donna (Paris) Dunson and husband Chris Dunson, Pat Burks; great grandchildren, great great granchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Burks; sons, Dwight Burks, Milton Burks, Ralph Burks; and sisters, Mary Cornella Tyler, Rebecca Lee Johnson, Flora Marie Humphrey.
Memorial Service will be Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 5:30 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1857 Kessler Blvd Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46228.
