Noamie Ruth Byrum, 80, of Zionsville, formerly of Tyler, TX passed away September 4, 2018. She was born May 4, 1938 to Patricia & JC Moore in Tyler, TX. Her mother’s second husband, Terah Stiles, became the man she knew as her father at a young age, and she embraced the name Noamie Ruth Stiles.
Noamie married in 1956 and had 3 children. She raised her children until they were all in school and then attended Stephen F. Austin State University in the late 1960’s, earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English. She then began a long career teaching English and World Literature at Tyler Junior College . She retired in 2011 after 41 years doing what she loved.
Besides teaching and spending time with friends, she loved to travel, especially to England, was an avid gardener and reader, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren in the summers at Lake Tyler. She was a member of Zionsville Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Charles (Candy Jo), and 2 granddaughters. She will be missed by her son, Jon (Lori), daughter, Terah (Roy Rutledge), 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and numerous friends.
There will be a celebration of life service at Zionsville Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, September 11 at 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. www.alz.org.
