Susan Carole Myers, 70, of Speedway, Indiana passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019. She was born on Saturday, October 9, 1948, to James K. and Lydia (Roberts) Patterson in Indianapolis, IN.
Many of the childhood memories she shared with her kids involved watching practice or qualifications at the Indy 500. One of her favorite stories involved the Beatles. She was at the Indy 500 museum, and she suddenly got cordoned off into a side room. It seems the Beatles were passing through, and all others were kept away from them.
A graduate of Northwest High School in 1966, Sue married Bob Myers in 1969. They bought a house in Speedway in 1970, where she raised her two kids, Dan and Krissy, as well as two step-children, Bobby and Nick. She attended hundreds of her kids’ soccer, basketball, golf, band, and drama events.
Sue was best known for her work at Riviera Pediatrics where she was a long-time receptionist and office manager, working along-side her best friend, Connie Stinnett.
With her family and the Stinnett family, she spent many happy summer vacations in Daytona Beach, FL. Her favorite time of year though, like most Speedway residents, was during the Indy 500. As her kids would park cars in the yard, Sue would socialize with whomever was parked, making some life-long friends in the process.
In her free time, her love of family led her to become the family historian. Before the internet, she would spend hours and hours in libraries researching her family line. Frequently, she would call Dan or Krissy to share with them her latest finds: distant cousins to Lincoln, connections to many Civil War and Revolutionary War soldiers, even back to England and Ireland with some tenuous connection the Richard the Lionheart. She was a voracious fiction reader and also kept her family up-to-date on what was happening in Speedway. She loved IU basketball and would occasionally become so frustrated during the games, her family bought her a foam brick to throw at the TV. She also followed the Colts and Pacers, and lately became reinterested in her favorite childhood baseball team, the Dodgers.
She was preceded in death by her parents James K. and Lydia (Roberts) Patterson.
She is survived by son Daniel Myers, daughter Kristin Myers, step-sons Nick and Bob Myers, brother Mike Patterson, sister Lisa Patterson Kinney, sister Kathy Buckallew, and three grandchildren: Amanda Martz, Jeffrey Myers, and Austin Myers.
She is loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
