Betty Jean McCain of the Bengal area passed away at her home Monday February 24th at the age of 89. She was born April 25, 1930 to Harry and Christina Elizabeth Adkins.
Betty Attended and graduated from Edinburgh schools. As a young girl she worked in a beauty shop, drug store, grocery store and at the power and light company to help out her mother after her father had passed away.
On January 7, 1952 she married Merrill Jack McCain in Salem, Indiana. She took up housekeeping in the house that Jack built for them. They were married 36 years when Jack died March 7, 1988.
Betty is survived by her 2 children, Kevin (Becky) McCain and Beth Ann (Randy) Hehman both from the Bengal Area. Grandchildren, Ashley McCain (fiancée Greg Rock), Marcus McCain, Seth McCain, Blake Wilkins (Megan), Melissa (Brian)Hasty, Matthew (Clarissa) Hehman, Jacob (Nena) Hehman and Christopher (Lyndsey) Hehman. 13 great-grandchildren and one coming in the fall. Her very special caregiver Amy Mae Howley, several nieces and nephews, along with her little dog Skeeter Jean.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her parents and her brother Marshall Adkins.
Betty was a member of the Bengal Christian Church. She belonged to the Bengal Ladies Aid, Country Clubbers Home Ec Club and the Blue River Bowling league.
She enjoyed traveling, watching movies, doing crosswords, her family and her little dog.
She was a devoted member of the church until she got ill. The family ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Brookdale Hospice or Bengal Christian Church. The family would also like to thank Brookdale Hospice and Amy Howley for the wonderful care and support given to their mother and grandmother.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held Saturday February 29, 2020 at 12:00 Noon at the Bengal Christian Church. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until the time of service. Burial will be in 2nd Mt Pleasant Cemetery.
