Gerald “Wayne” Peters, 72, of Clayton, passed away on June 18, 2021 in Stilesville, Indiana. He was born on May 26, 1949 to Harold C. and Martha (Stevens) Peters in Noblesville, Indiana.
Wayne enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1972. In 1980 he re-enlisted in the United States Army Reserves. During his years in the Army Reserves, he was also a member of several competitive marksmanship teams and traveled the United States competing with great success. Wayne retired with the rank of Sergeant Major in 2009. Wayne worked for 29 years as a Technical Analyst for Indiana Insurance/Liberty Mutual Insurance, but his heart was foremost with the Army Reserves. Wayne’s insatiable thirst for knowledge earned him many degrees during his lifetime, but the history of military firearms was his passion.
Wayne was preceded in death by his mother, Martha (Stevens) Peters, father, Harold C. Peters and brother, Leroy Peters. He is survived by his nephew, Richard Dale Peters. While Wayne never married, he was an adopted dad and grandpa to many and was truly loved until the end. With his gentle, caring nature he was a friend to everyone. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
A private Celebration of Life will held by his family and friends at a later date.
