Rebecca “Becky” Lynn Whatley, born September 7, 1981, left this world suddenly on December 29, 2021, at the age of 40, with her family by her side after a long battle with an incurable disease. Becky is survived by her husband James, her daughters Briana and Lovelynn, her stepdaughters Samantha, Leah & Luett; her parents Johnny Lee & Mary Katherine Blankenship; her brother Russel Blankenship and sister-in-law- Pam; as well as many, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Becky was preceded in death by her favorite Aunt Ella and her maternal and paternal grandparents. She is a 1999 graduate of Ben Davis High School and, sometime after graduating, met and married the love of her life Vern (a/k/a James) on September 4, 2003.
Becky’s interests included being with her family, shopping and hanging out with her daughters, having fun, cook-outs, listening to music and slow dances with her husband. Her favorite color was purple, and she loved to go camping, fishing, and sitting by the fire to get warm. She looked forward to the holidays and taking trips to her family’s home in Tennessee.
Becky’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understand the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her battle in these recent years showed us her strength, as she faced life’s challenges with a smile. Her determination gave us courage and hope. She reminded us of the preciousness of life. Becky was a daughter, a beautiful wife, a loving mother, a sister, an aunt, and a best friend; she was loved very much, and she knew it. Her presence, her smile, her laughter, all the little things she did, will forever be in our hearts and she will be missed every single day.
Indiana Memorial is honored to serve the Whatley family.
